Past Council 2016/2018

Following its AGM held on 5th June 2016, the following have been elected to office as council members of PSAM for 2016-2018:

1. TIEW HAI SAN CPSI (President)
As a founding member of PSAM and with strong passion in playground safety, Mr Tiew enacted new Playground Safety Policy for Federal Territories in his capacity as Under Secretary, Strategic Development Division, Ministry of Federal Territories in 2013. Having obtained Certified Playground Safety Inspector license, he initiated a Workshop on Playground Safety in Federal Territories in 2013 with overwhelming response from major City Halls and Local Authorities. Topping up his MBA, he obtained Certified Strategic Advisor in 2014. With vast experience in Malaysian Skills Certification System administered by Department of Skills Department, gained during his 10 years stint in Ministry of Human Resources, he now leads PSAM as the biggest advocate in producing skilled workers in planning and designing; installation and maintenance; and inspection and auditing in playground safety for the country. Mr Tiew has served Deputy President, PSAM for the 2014-2016 term. He was former Chief Executive Officer of Human Resources Development Fund.

2. DR. NOOR AZLIN BINTI YAHYA CPSI (Deputy Chairman)
As head of Ecotourism and Urban Forestry Program, Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM), she advocates research and development for the sustainability of resources for outdoor recreation. Noor Azlin is one of the founding directors of World Urban Parks, she is a member in the of the Social Aspects of Recreation and Tourism group for International Union of Forest Research Organisation. (IUFRO). She is also a founding board member of Malaysia Parks, Recreation and Amenities Society (MyParks). She holds a Bsc degree in Biology from Doane College, Nebraska, Msc in Resource & Policy from State University in New York, and a PhD in Outdoor Recreation from Universiti Putra Malaysia. She has published many publications, in the areas of outdoor recreation, urban forestry and environmental education. Acknowledging the importance of play in human development, Noor Azlin strongly believes in the provision of safe recreational facilities within a sustainable environment. She previously serves as a council member of PSAM for the 2014-2016 term.

3. LAr. NORIAH BINTI MAT CPSI, CA (Secretary)
As founder member of PSAM, Noriah was responsible for bringing the International Playground Safety Institute (IPSI) to Malaysia to conduct the Playground Safety Inspector Certification Course and Examination organized by Putrajaya Corporation. In 2012, Noriah was amongst the first few certified playground safety inspectors in Malaysia and has set on efforts to promote playground safety through playground safety policy, playground standards, public talks, courses, and many more. She previously served as the Director of Parks and Recreation with Putrajaya Corporation’s Park and Landscape Department and currently a director in PPLANTs Sdn Bhd. A holder of Master of Landscape Architecture from University of Pennsylvania, USA, coupled with more than 20 years of experience in landscape industry, she strives to share knowledge and expertise in playground safety with others for the betterment of future generations. She has been reelected and retained as Honorary Secretary of PSAM having served as its Secretary during the 2014-2016 term.

4. NURUL FARHANA TAN ABDULLAH CPSI, MIP (Assistant Secretary)
Nurul is Senior Assistant Director Development Plan And Planning Research Section of the Perbadanan Putrajaya (PPj) Sustainable Development Division. She is a qualified Town Planner and a Certified Playground Safety Inspector (CPSI). She aspires to make PPj the first local authority in Malaysia in implementing full safety guidelines of new playgrounds under its jurisdiction to make it safer for its users and she hopes that through her involvement in PSAM will enable her greater awareness and learn important playground safety aspect that will be useful to PPj.

5. LAr. NORHALIZA HANIFAH CPSI (Treasurer)
Serving as a Principal Assistant Director of the Perbadanan Putrajaya (Ppj) Landscape Approval Division. she is a qualified Landscape Architect and a Certified Playground Safety Inspector (CPSI). She aspires to make PPj the first local authority in Malaysia in implementing full safety audit of new playgrounds under its jurisdiction. She previously served as auditor to the 2014-2016 PSAM Council.

6. YANG SUSELAWATI BINTI ZAKARIA CPSI (Council Member)
A landscape architecture graduate from Universitas Trisakti Jakarta, Indonesia, she has over 20 years of experience in Landscape Architecture and serves as director with prominent landscape consultant firm ECOdesign.She is a Certified Playground Safety Inspector (CPSI) since 2013 and actively works under PSAM to bring greater awareness towards children playground safety in Malaysia. She is the Head of the Education & Training Committee and previously served as PSAM assistant secretary and Head of Audit and Inspection Committee for the 2014-2016 term.

7. SONG LIH CPSI (Council Member)
Song Lih the chief designer in Unique Green Recreation Sdn Bhd, a leading playground equipment manufacturer in Malaysia. He has more than 10 years experience in the playground equipment industry and amongst the first Certified Playground Safety Inspector (CPSI) in Malaysia. Acknowledging the various problems in the industry between authorities, manufacturers, owners and users in developing safer playgrounds, he hopes that through PSAM, greater integration and structure will be implemented to enable playgrounds to be safer in the future. He has been retained as a council member and Head of Corporate Communication Committee which he previously serves in 2014-2016.

8. JESSIE SEOW WAI CHENG CPSI (Council Member)
Jessie is the Export Director of Greenhill Industries Sdn Bhd - a leading safety surfacing manufacturer of Malaysia. She has been in the playground surfacing market for more than 18 years. She is a Certified Playground Safety Inspector (CPSI) and also a Certified Triax Device Operator to perform Impact Attenuation testing of protective surfacing. She aspires to educate the necessity of playground maintenance and spread awareness on the importance of protective surfacing to maximize fun while minimizing risks in our playgrounds. She is head of the Technical Event Committee.

9. LAr. ZARINA MOHAMAD NAPIAH CPSI, CA (Council Member)
A landscape architect and Certified Arborist, Zarina is a director of Medang Teja Landscaping Sdn Bhd, a prominent landscape consultant firm. She is a Certified Playground Safety Inspector (CPSI) who is actively promoting playground safety requirements to other landscape architects in Malaysia. A PSAM council member in the 2014-2016 term, she heads the Audit & Certification Committee this term.

10. NORAZRI MOHD NOR CPSI (Council Member)
A graduate from Drexel University, USA, Norazri worked at Panasonic Malaysia and Maybank before getting involved in the playground industry. He has 14 years of experience in the industry being a director of Johan Junior Sdn Bhd, a prominent playground equipment manufacturer in Malaysia. As a certified playground safety inspector (CPSI) with extensive knowledge and contacts in the industry, he hopes his involvement in PSAM can bring about necessary change and improvement to the industry.

10. NORAZRI MOHD NOR CPSI (Council Member)

12. KENNETH WONG (Auditor)
Kenneth is director of Vikeway Design, which specializes in playground and protective surfacing installation. He has over 5 years experience in the field having previously worked as project manager for Parkscape Concept Sdn Bhd, a well-established playground manufacturer and landscape contractor. Through his involvement with PSAM, he hopes his on the ground experience will help PSAM on practical matters of installation in the industry.
